VCAD

Design a part in 2D or 3D, by hand or with a co-pilot.

VCAD is a design tool for 2D and 3D drawings. Sketch and extrude a part yourself, or describe it to the co-pilot and review what it drafts. An impact view shows cost, carbon and quantity. Nothing is final until you accept it.

Shown on screen recordings of the product, with a spur gear as the co-pilot example.

  1. 01Sketch a 2D shape on a view
  2. 02Extrude it into a 3D solid
  3. 03Ask the co-pilot for a draft
  4. 04You accept or reject the design
  5. 05Export it as STEP or STL
Manual design

Pick a view, sketch, then extrude

Start from one of the samples or import a file from another resource. Choose the view you are working on, draw the sketch, and turn it into a solid.

Walkthrough: manual design, then the co-pilot. Open on Loom if the video does not load.

Start from a sample or an import

Import files from another resource, or open one of the samples and start the design from there. The dashboard opens when you create a new design.

Sketch on a view

Choose the front, top or right view. Open the sketch options and pick a shape, such as a rectangle or a circle, then draw it on the view.

Extrude into 3D

Select the sketch, open the solid options and choose extrude. Enter the size and apply it. To add depth to a solid, select it and drag its arrow to stretch it.

Co-pilot

Describe the part, then review the draft

The co-pilot can continue a design you have started, or create a new one from your prompt. It works on the design while you wait, then shows the specifications of what it made.

Co-pilot example: a spur gear. Open on Loom if the video does not load.

  1. Type a prompt
  2. The co-pilot drafts the design
  3. It shows the specifications
  4. You accept or reject it
  5. Export the accepted design

The co-pilot does not finish a design on its own. The draft stays a draft until you accept it.

After the design

Check the cost, carbon and history

Every design can be checked before it leaves the tool: what it costs, what carbon it carries, and what was done to it.

Impact

The impact view shows the cost, the carbon and the quantity of the design.

Tree view

The tree view lists the operations performed on the design, so you can see how it was built.

Export

Export the accepted design as STEP or STL from the export option. Both are used in the spur gear example.
